Supporting people leaving prison with financial skills

Since 2019, Barclays volunteers in Singapore have been supporting people leaving prison to develop financial skills and help reduce the rate of reoffending.

20% of offenders in Singapore go on to re-offend within two years of release, and not having the skills to manage money is one factor contributing to this high re-offending rate. 

Through group workshops, our volunteers work with prisoners to develop budgeting tools and strategies. In the workshops, each person sets their own financial objective and looks at ways to effectively budget, building their confidence and skills to help them succeed. 

Since 2019, our colleagues have supported over 400 people leaving prison in 25 sessions.
